I’ve been very much enjoying reprising my role as onstage accordion player with the Joffrey Ballet in Christopher Wheeldon’s gorgeous Chicago-specific Nutcracker. I play in an onstage trio with Renée-Paule Gauthier, violin, and Sergey Gutorov, clarinet, and we trade off with the orchestra throughout the party scene – which, in this staging, takes place just before the 1893 World’s Fair. It’s great fun to be playing beautiful music and performing alongside such amazing musician and dancers.
