On September 16th at 7pm, the Chicago Film Archives will livestream the premiere of Four Dances for Three Couples as part of Experimental Sound Studios’ Quarantine Concerts. This film was created from CFA’s footage by Jiayi Chen, and the music was written for three musician couples who have each been isolating together during the pandemic. Many thanks to Helen Callus, Michael Lieberman, Jenna Buchner, Mark Buchner, and Patrick Murray for performing and home-recording the score so beautifully under unusual conditions.
The Media Mixer is a popular annual event wherein CFA arranges three “blind dates” between local audio and visual media artists who have never previously worked together. These newly acquainted artists are commissioned to create unique works using footage and sounds from CFA’s film collection.
